Yuletide Traditions...

✡★☆✡☆★✡☆★
Its that time of year when everything starts to speed up and there doesn't seem enough hours in the day...
I have such a long 'To Do' list...I seem to be adding more things than ticking them off.
There are quite a few traditions at this festive time of year that I really enjoy doing with family...
and I make sure I make time for them how ever busy things suddenly become...
1. The Christmas Tree competition at our lovely, local church, for charity!...
It gets bigger and bigger every year and the local schools, organisations and local buisness's take part.
The Local Bedford Hotel made this one...
The Christmas dresser full of fairy lights...

2. Picking a Christmas Tree...We always want different sizes and types!. But recent years we've gone for re-planting pot Christmas tree's and have planted them back into the garden on previous years.
4. Making Ginger bread festive shapes and having fun decorating them as a family and baking cakes and savouries...
5. Dickensian Evening...I spent the evening with my lovely Mum....Mulled wine , local choir, sea shanty male group from Cornwall, festive nibbles around the traditional market, roasted nuts, mistletoe and local craft & food stalls...We have a wonderfully traditional indoor and out door market and I also love looking in at all the festive Window displays at this time of year too...Oh; and the Light switch on of the decorative street lights and Christmas tree's.
6. Visiting other lovely Market towns and cities...Like Exeter, Totnes, Truro and Ashburton. Always enjoy seeing all the traditional Yuletide events being held...For the atmosphere and festive joy mainly...
7. One of the main traditional Joys is lighting all the candles at home, turning on the Christmas tree lights...and the Advent candle...
8. I love listening to radio 2 or Classic FM...Choir songs from the Cathedrals and hymns...and some old classic songs.
9.  Giving to charity~...I love having a good December clear out...donated to charity shops.
10.  Being Together as a Family...watching silly Christmas time t.v or singing along to Christmas songs laughing... 1 more week til the end of work and School! yipppeeee!!!!

Exeter Cathedral was absolutely beautiful... and enjoyed walking around the Christmas Market...

I soooo enjoy getting the box's of decorations and old favourite decors out...
Checking all the twinkly fairy lights making sure they all still work!.
Decorating the Dresser and Shelflings...I'm not very good at less is more I'm afraid!...

We have five birthdays this month...My lovely Stevie has just celebrated his we went to a lovely old pub in Cornwall, Looe... The Old Salutation...Its always so beautifully decorated in branches and baubles during Christmas...
We had a wonderful Fish Pie and all the trimmings!...and his Father drove us so we could drink...I had a lovely Cornish cider...The whole pub glittered and sparkled and the fire kept us all snug...Its my Birthday next weekend...

Frosty and Misty Magical Mornings...I do enjoy them...You can just make out the Church in the distance from our Hill Top Garden view...

My Hyacinths are starting to shoot through...

Sunsets on Dartmoor... ♥

What are you enjoying in the lead up to Christmas day?

folk tales & fireworks

Of myth and magic...
Comes a fairy tale...

(Boscastle, Cornwall)

I took part in #folktaleweek2019 on Instagram...Each day you were given a prompt...
I really enjoyed it...My lovely Stevie had gifted me New watercolours and with a plain white sheet of paper I began to imagine the stuff only believed in folk tales...And illustrations began to appear like Magic!.
I think you should always have a little fairy dust and magic in your days especially in today's world.
A little girl with Pixie boots shared a little home and bed with a fox, hare and hedgehog...
warming by the fire in their over turned Toadstool house...

I've added these Folk tale inspired Prints to my Etsy Shop (Link in left hand sidebar of my blog)...
FREE!!!! Robin Wreath Print with every purchase, Free u.k delivery and £4 overseas postage.
Remember Remember the 5th of November...We missed the main Fireworks display this year and watched them on the hill top garden and had sparklers and hot jacket potatoes from the stove...
Actually, It seemed a lot more magical like that...close to home and the array of whizzes and bangs and colour and stars glittering around the sky above our cottage...
We all cuddled up in our big coats and many layers of woolly mittens and scarves looking up towards the big star lit sky....Glittering stars filled the sky ☆★✶☆★✶✯

I have all the fairy lights on and sometimes in the day when its been quite dark...
I love a home filled with candle lights and fairy lights...

☆✩☆★✩☆✩☆
My Brother and wife came to visit for a lovely long weekend...They drove us to Tintagel, Charlestown and Boscastle, Cornwall all in one day!...Boscastle I had not been to in years! so that was a real treat...I love the oldey worldy cottages and wonky roof tops...So much myth and history surrounding these harbours villages from smugglers, mermaids and king Arthur's legends...There is a wonderful and magical Museum of witchcraft in Boscastle, sadly closed (I have been before but many many years ago when I was first moving to Devon)...But I loved the decor surrounding the museum entrance...
It was quite a stormy day and added to its charm with whistling winds and dramatic spooky skies...
I love the excitement of crashing waves against the rocks...

...Friendly Robin at Stover Nature park...with a very serious little face.

Absolutely beautiful Autumnal colours by the river leading to the large lake ♥

My Pixie found an over turned toadstool...
My very own Pixie in the woods... ♥

We have also enjoyed a few weekends exploring the woods around Stover nature park and the Make2019 Exhibition on at the Devon guild of Craftsmen....I loved the needle felt old women By Kate Toms...We had a wonderful chai tea cake with butter icing and earl grey teas while Sophia enjoyed a huge hot chocy with all the trimmings...

I hope you have been enjoying the seasonal delights and a little magic!

'Tis Halloween...

Parties and Pumpkins and a little halloween fairytale magic a long the way...

I cannot quite believe it but my lovely daughter Sophia is now officially a Teenager!!!!...
She was soooo excited to see sparklers on her cake!.

A long comes Autumn and all the beautiful colours...Rusty reds and golden tones...
It always amazes me like ive never seen an Autumn like it before...
We've enjoyed some wonderful family walks along the old canal and into the woods, around our pretty old Market town and some trips in the car to the sea and coastal harbours in Cornwall and to Dartington Hall for a lovely Autumnal walk around the estate and gardens...

Beautiful issue of Country Living U.K this month, beautiful styling by selina lake...

We had a family day in Liskeard, Cornwall... Beautiful yarn bombing around the little market town.
We enjoyed looking through the book shop, charity shops and antiques shops...
I came home with a few treasures...
I'm still enjoying some late dahlias bringing colour to the garden and other little blooms in the pots on the patio...My Mother came over and took a huge bag of apples!...I cannot believe how many apples the trees produced this year!...
This is a beautiful vintage Pumpkin  picture I found through pinterest...

I had a little go at carving and drawing onto my own pumpkins ( not home grown)...
I used a white Posca pen to decorate the foliage one...free hand styled it.
Adds a little magic to the fireplace...Sophia is yet to finish hers.

Enjoying warming soups made with chicken stock, roast chicken strips, leeks, potatoes and grated cheddar...and toasted granary loaf....
I love my home with lots of sparkling fairy lights...especially now the evenings are getting much darker.

Its been a busy, but really Lovely Month, this October...We've enjoyed Sophia's birthday celebrations and had some lovely family outings during the half term week...
Wonderful Charlestown Harbour in Cornwall...And if you're a fan of Poldark the BBC series you will also like to know it was where a lot of the harbour scenes were filmed...Now quite a huge tourist attraction and you can walk around the set...We used to come here quite a lot before its big fame when we were first dating...We couldn't park quite a few trips during the summer months, so we did enjoy less coach loads of people and a quiet walk around...It was beautiful Sunny day too...We enjoyed pasties by the harbour wall.
Autumnal rose...

My Halloween inspired illustrations have been quite a success this month...I think everyone likes a bit of a fairytale...whimsical and dreamy...Ive been sharing them on instagram and 'Thank you' to those who have purchased prints from my Etsy shop (Link In sidebar to my Etsy shop)...
We seem to be filled up on cake most of this October month...and Enjoying Autumn and family time.
