Simple pleasures, Summer Solstice...

The sky is heavenly on this Mid Summer Solstice...The bell's of the Market town church chime and its 9pm.
Sitting with a glass of bubbly and some Cotehele Rhubarb crumble with Devon cream just taking in all the peaceful sights around me...this Simple, quiet time...I love these warm-ish evenings just looking up at the sky.
Its quite something when you think to yourself half the year is already through, a little time to reflect...I almost feel I have been in waiting for Summer to actually arrive...Devon has had quite a fair share of rain...In between some days of pure blue skies, But I think the April showers came to us in June...

The best thing about Summer to me is the early Morning walk around the garden while my partner and daughter start to wake. I love that peaceful, sparkly, dappled sunlight through the apple tree's, the morning birds song and enjoying any new buds appearing on the flower beds and pots while sipping on my first milky tea of the day before the hustle and bustle of busy routines...Just 'Me' and the garden. And then that late evening dusky light after a busy day just taking time to be peaceful and my quiet time before getting off to bed with a good book...

My partner had a weeks holiday from Work, mainly to sort the car insurance and a few other car issues.
But between garage visits and finances We headed off for some Me and him time...between school pick up time too. It was a bit wet! and one day misty and wet!!, but we braved the weather and had some good walks anyway...Good British style you could say.  One of my most favourite nurseries in Cornwall is The Duchy Nursery, Lostwithiel...Its really beautiful, lovely greenhouses full with plants and cactuses, lots of potted plants, rose bushes, fruit tree's outside...and lead you to a New Bumblebee Garden with shepherd huts and allotment style garden. Also the barn gift shop and restaurant are really stunning with the character of an old barn style...We had a beautiful day and the Sun came out!. After a lovely Cornish tea we headed to Lerryn right  by the river...quiet, peaceful place...We had some of steve's Mother's walnut cake on the river bank where the boats are moored up. The tide was out. The red campion and wild grasses decorating the muddy banks. We walked along the river towards the woodlands.

We have lots of ideas and plans we have been discussing for the future...goals we set ourselves and things we'd like to achieve... its 'Our' time to think things through and I love our chats. We also get so much pleasure from walking and nature (I say this a lot on my blog!) ...Its so important to have that Loving Soul Mate. We have so many shared interests. He's been my rock!.

Calstock, Cotehele and Lerryn...Cornwall.

We've also had some lovely evening walks to Calstock, Cotehele (National Trust house, gardens, woodlands, river quay and boat museum) and Kit Hill (far reaching views of Devon and Cornwall~ Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor) in Cornwall and an evening for fathers day drinks in Torquay with Stevie's parents.
My father also is doing much better after a very horrid tumour on his nose with means he will have to have plastic surgery. But he's good in himself considering the on going cancer treatments. I hope to see him in the next month.
I am still busy behind the scenes with illustrations and sending prints off from the printers in the city...

But Today I'm Home with my daughter as she's a little poorly...
(I started this posting on my blog a few days ago...just got round to actually posting it)

Wishing you Summer Solstice blessings...

  1. What a beautiful area you live in. Isn't it wonderful to have some child free time with your partner. We're lucky that with hubby's schedule we get to have time once or twice a month when kids are at school and we find that our relationship is growing and getting better all the time. Wishing you some wonderful summer weather. xx Susan

  2. Love all these beautiful pictures! Aren't flowers amazing? They can instantly lift spirits. I don't have a garden right now but even a walk around town taking in all the pretty gardens can be a fun thing to do - I love roses particularly; they all smell different but so lovely. The scent just wafts out to greet you.

Your father has been through a lot of trials recently, I wish him well and lots of good wishes for better health and comfort. It is very difficult and emotionally demanding to be caring for sick people too, so I hope you are able to look after you as well.

Your drawings are as always very lovely - I love all the details on the vase as well as the pretty flowers. My daughter loves walnuts in cakes - we just had a coffee and walnut cake which was very good. I hope your daughter is feeling better now.
Best wishes for happy summery times ahead,

    Sara

  3. Kazzy,

I am SOOOOOOO with you on where on earth has the year gone?!!!!!!!! Seriously MIDDLE OF THE YEAR? Big Bear's Birthday is on the Winter Solstice (something he's really quite bummed about!!!!!), but it's always nice to think that from then on the days start to get lighter. I love the Summer Solstice, but there is something a tad depressing about it....like the year is already then on its 'wind down'!!!!!! I cannot believe how quick this year has gone. I swear that every year it gets that little bit faster. I'm trying so hard to try and soak up moments and remember them. At least we can record them on our blogs!!!! tee hee!

Your trip out looked amazing. You really inspire me to get out and about. I can sometimes be a bit of a hermit and I have to force myself to get outside.

I also love this time of year for its bright mornings. My favourite thing is to get up when all are still in bed and sit on my back step with a cup of tea and cloud bust. Having said that, the weather has been all over the place lately so I haven't done as much of that as I would like.

I often think about your dad and how he is doing. He's always in my prayers and I do so hope that his health improves. I bet you visiting him though is such a tonic.

Well my lovely, I hope you manage to have the most beautiful Summer, and I look forward to stopping by here again soon!

    Big squeeze!!!!!!! xxxxxxx

  4. Stunning photos and what a lovely day out! I can hardly believe we're half way through the year already. Sumer here is doing OK. Not sun is shining, but the heat is tempered by a cooling breeze. I love the 'little posy' artwork. Best, Jane :)

  8. Your photos are beautiful, Kazzy! You're right about the April showers coming in June, it was terrible wasn't it! We had a mixed bag of weather on our week away at Canon's Town, just outside of Hayle.
I haven't been to Cotehele for years. I ought to make a trip down there, as I'm a Nat Trust member.
Hope your dad is coping ok with his treatments and wish him well. I know I've said it before, but your illustrations are lovely:)

  9. You live in such a beautiful part of the country and I enjoy reading your blog, and have done for a long time but never commented. I live in America, but visit my parents' house near the Helford and so I am very familiar with Cornwall, which is where I went to school for sixth form.
I had never been to Cothele but my husband and I went in June on one of the rainiest days of our visit to the UK. The countryside around there lifted our spirits, and we enjoyed the house very much, but it was far too wet to explore the gardens. We did take the shuttle down to the Tamar and the quay, so loved seeing your picture of the river. It is so different upstream from what you see when you cross the bridge into Plymouth!
Enjoy the holidays with your daughter and long may the weather hold so you can get out and about.
